Cultural Exploration: Visiting Historical Sites in Liaocheng

Location: Dongchang Lake Scenic Area, Guangyue Tower, Shanshan Guild Hall
Content: Boat tour of Dongchang Lake, the “Water City of Northern Jiangsu,” to experience the unique landscape of “city in water, water in city”;
Visit Guangyue Tower, a Ming Dynasty historic building known as the “World’s First Tower,” and learn about the historical evolution of Liaocheng Ancient City;
Explore Shanshan Guild Hall, a Qing Dynasty commercial guild, to understand canal culture and the spirit of Shanxi merchants.
Highlights: Multi-language guides provide on-site explanations of historical anecdotes, enhancing cultural immersion.
Youth Dialogue: Campus Exchange at Liaocheng University

Location: Liaocheng University
Content: Campus tour to experience Chinese university teaching facilities and campus culture;
Hold a “Chinese and International University Student Forum” to exchange ideas on the theme of “Mind Sports and Youth Development”;
Interactive experiences: Chinese calligraphy, tea tasting, and traditional games such as touhu (pitch-pot).
Highlights: One-on-one pairing between Chinese and international students to foster deeper friendship.
Youth Dialogue: Campus Exchange at Liaocheng University Dongchang College

Location: Liaocheng University Dongchang College
Content: Campus tour to experience Chinese university teaching facilities and campus culture;
Exchange on the theme “Mind Sports and Youth Development”;
Interactive experiences: intangible cultural heritage activities such as dough modeling, making moxibustion hammers, and visiting the campus library.
Highlights: One-on-one pairing between Chinese and international students to promote deep cross-cultural friendship.
Skills Inheritance: Intangible Cultural Heritage DIY Workshop
Time: Afternoon of October 14
Location: Liaocheng City Intangible Cultural Heritage Workshop (or designated venue)
Content: Select 1–2 Liaocheng-specific intangible cultural heritage projects (e.g., Dongchang gourd carving, woodblock New Year prints, paper-cutting);
On-site teaching by heritage inheritors, guiding students to create simple works by hand (e.g., gourd pyrography, print rubbings of New Year pictures).
Highlights: Students can take home their completed works as souvenirs of cultural exchange.
V. Significance of the Activities
Through the integrated experience of observing, learning, and doing, university students from around the world can gain a deeper understanding of Chinese traditional culture and modern campus vitality. Using mind sports as a bridge, the activities aim to foster friendship and cultural exchange among young people from China and abroad.
