The second coordination meeting for the 2026 FISU World University Mind Sports was held via video conference on March 13, 2026. Representatives from the International University Sports Federation (FISU), Chinese University Sports Association, Liaocheng Municipal Bureau of Education and Sports, and Liaocheng Chess Association attended the session.
This marked the second coordination meeting since athlete registration opened. Wang Jie, Secretary-General of Liaocheng Chess Association, delivered an update on the latest preparation progress on behalf of the Games Organising Committee. Attendees exchanged views on outstanding matters, aligned work plans, and laid out arrangements for follow-up tasks.
Slated for this autumn in Liaocheng, Shandong Province, the 2026 FISU World University Mind Sports will feature two official disciplines: chess and bridge. Registration is currently underway, and all preparatory work is advancing at full steam.
Dongchangfu District of Liaocheng is officially named the “National Hometown of Chess”, and the city’s chess development ranks among the top tier across comparable cities nationwide. With strong backing from the Chinese University Sports Association, Liaocheng Municipal People’s Government and the municipal education and sports bureau, Liaocheng Chess Association has completed extensive groundwork throughout the bidding and pre-Games preparation phases.
All stakeholders look forward to a smooth, on-schedule edition of the Games, which will bring fresh momentum to the city’s chess scene.
